Ryan aka Fareo

What do you do here?
I build and fix most of the web design aspects of the blog. Well, I did... but now they have a fancy editing tool to use with most of the design aspects of the blog, so that part of my job just got super easy. I also edit and publish the weekly podcast. Aside from being the so called leader at times, I also write articles and reviews. To be honest I probably spend more time with the backend of the blog then the front.

First System Ever Owned:

First Game Ever Bought:
The first game I bought with my own money was "Road and Track Presents: The Need for Speed" for PC. I remember playing the demo for it at Incredible Universe. My parents wouldn't buy me a 3D0 (shocking), so I found it for the PC. I bought it with my own money and brought it over to my buddy's house, who had a PC that would actually run it. Hahaha... I later re-bought it for the PS1, where I was able to play it whenever I wanted. :)

Systems I Have Owned:
NES, SNES, GameGear, PS1, PS2, Gameboy SP, Xbox, PSP(1000), Wii, PS3, DS lite, PSP Go

Favorite Genre of Games:

Least Favorite Genre of Games:
MMORPG

Favorite Story to Tell About Your Gaming Past:
I won a Need for Speed tournament - 1st place out of 70+ people for Need for Speed Most Wanted "Black List." I then got 3rd out of  the top 7 in the finals, in So Cal. I won an Xbox, four Games, a trip to the finals, and a ride in a Drift Viper with Samuel Hubinette... and the ability to finally get something to eat after about 5 hours in the sun at a race track.

If You Were Stranded on an Island With Only 5 Games, and Somehow This Island had an AC Power Supply as well as Food and Water, Naturally... What Games Would You Bring?
Little Big Planet 2, Super Street Fighter 4, Rockband 2, Burnout Paradise, Gran Turismo 5

If You Could Turn Back Time and Never Purchase a Game (Only One) that You Currently Regret, Which Would it be?
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2; not that it was a bad game. I was more or less pressured into purchasing it just to say I have it. I was already tired of the first game and this was more of the same (which to some, was perfect). That, and every time I looked at it, I knew that me owning it was just "argument leverage," which put a negative funk on me ever wanting to play it. So I traded it in to Game Stop, which should go under "stupidest trade-in's" as I could have gotten more for it on Craig's list... MW2 and I have a bumpy past.

Off Topic:
When I'm not creating sack people and burning laps around the Nurburgring, I spend my time playing guitar. I'm currently working on a new band: Sovern. It's comprised of a few members from previous bands that I've been in. As much as I love video games and music, my first love is cars. My first word was "car," and it's also my passion. I have a 1967 Dodge Charger that I've had since I was 16 and I will hopefully have until I can no longer drive. Some day I would love to go to school for Hollywood style stunt driving and burn a lap around the real Nurburgring.

Fun Fact:
Our intro was created with Garage Band, My Yamaha SBG200, and a copy of Amplitude. I used the remix mode in Amplitude to hammer out a beat, recorded said beat into Garage Band from my TV, then wrote the main rhythm riff after two attempts.  After finishing it with sound effects, I decided it sounded too flat. Went back, added a secondary rhythm after about three or four attempts. Rearranged the sound effects and Shazam! Our podcast intro was born... in about an hour.

Been gaming since the NES, but I guess you could say the first one that was truly mine was my N64.

First Game Ever Bought:
Don't remember this one. You see, I was (am) a spoiled child who's parents bought most of his games for him. I would like to say it was Final Fantasy X on the PlayStation 2, but I'm not 100% sure.

Favorite Story to Tell About Your Gaming Past:
When I was just a youngin', my Grandmother would always let me watch her play Super Mario Bros. When she would play that game she would get so into it. I remember she would jerk the controller upward like it made Mario jump higher. Anyway, one day she grew tired of dying on a level and proceeded to throw the controller on the ground in anger, only to pick it back up and resume playing again. As she picked up the controller she looked over and saw me sitting there. She then handed me the controller and said "Here, you try." So began my life of gaming. I can never thank her enough for starting me on my path.

If You Were Stranded on an Island With Only 5 Games, and Somehow This Island had an AC Power Supply as well as Food and Water, Naturally... What Games Would You Bring?
Pokémon Black, LittleBIGPlanet 2, Final Fantasy VII, World of Warcraft, and Fallout: New Vegas.

If You Could Turn Back Time and Never Purchase a Game (Only One) that You Currently Regret, Which Would it be?
Saw The Video Game. Yes I bought it, yes I love it, and yes I still need to beat it. But this was such a terrible game.

If You had the Chance to Show Someone who is a Music Enthusiast (but Doesn't Play Video Games) One Song from a Game, Which Song Would it be?
A Flower Blooming in the Slums (from "Final Fantasy VII" - Aerith's Theme) from the Crisis Core soundtrack. Such an amazing and emotional piece of music for me. It was originally how I imagined the song would sound if Final Fantasy VII was ever remade.

Favorite Story to Tell About Your Gaming Past:
I'm not sure I have a story about games that I really enjoy telling, other than my ridiculous feats in RPGs...Um... I got 64 of the 80+ endings in Star Ocean: The Second Story.

If You Were Stranded on an Island With Only 5 Games, and Somehow This Island had an AC Power Supply as well as Food and Water, Naturally... What Games Would You Bring?
Star Ocean: The Second Story, SMT: Persona 4, Valkyrie Profile, Xenogears, Suikoden II

If You Could Turn Back Time and Never Purchase a Game (Only One) that You Currently Regret, Which Would it be?
While there are several games I regret paying money for, the one that typically comes to mind these days is the day one purchase of GTA4. The fact that I was only able to get an hour into it - both times I tried playing it - really hurts my wallet's feelings. So I guess not buying that would be cool... at least, not for sixty dollars.

If You had the Chance to Show Someone who is a Music Enthusiast (but Doesn't Play Video Games) One Song from a Game, Which Song Would it be?
My least favorite questions people ask: 1) What is your favorite game? 2) What is your favorite band/song?

That being said, this kind of mixes the two... However, one song popped into my head immediately. While I can debate with myself about all the different songs that would be great to show off, I think the first thing that comes to mind should say something about how you truly feel. So I'd choose this marvelous piece, done by Koh Ohtani: Revived Power . It's like the song itself tells a story of epic trials and accomplishments. Every time I hear it, I am motivated to do whatever it is I'm currently doing. It does exactly what its title infers...

My name's Jason, obviously... Currently I'm attending college in hopes of majoring in 3D modeling/animation - or in a broader respect - Multimedia/Digital Art. I've dreamed of working at Pixar for years now, but if it doesn't work out, I plan on working at a video game company of some sort; preferably in Japan. I mod for the ECA forums and am heading the forums for this blog (if you are unaware of it, it's probably because it isn't currently public). Oh, and in regards to music - I don't play anything anymore. But I do sing, which I've done my whole life. Other than that... life is... well, life. Stuff happens. I've had it rough the past several years of my life, and never wish any of what I've experienced upon anyone else. But from those experiences, I've become who I am today. And for that, I must thank all the pain and torment I was put through.

Seeing the giant Toys 'R' Us end-cap of the first Final Fantasy on NES. Grabbing one of the slips of paper to give to the service counter to get my game. Glorious.

If You Were Stranded on an Island With Only 5 Games, and Somehow This Island had an AC Power Supply as well as Food and Water, Naturally... What Games Would You Bring?
Super Mario All-stars, Legend of Zelda: a Link to the Past, Team Fortress 2, Capcom vs. SnK 2, and Br 'cause that game is way more fun than some silly blips and bloops. Hah.

If You Could Turn Back Time and Never Purchase a Game (Only One) that You Currently Regret, Which Would it be?
Final Fantasy 11. Four different times. /Sigh.

I don't have many stories to tell - the only thing that comes to mind is finishing MGS3 in one day because of a busted memory card... or just good times with friends playing Smash Bros.

If You Were Stranded on an Island With Only 5 Games, and Somehow This Island had an AC Power Supply as well as Food and Water, Naturally... What Games Would You Bring?

Considering I'd have to make those games last, potentially until I become deadsies, I'd say...
Saints Row 2
Super Mario Brothers 3
Red Dead Redemption
Peggle
Perfect Dark
