A Foreigner Looking In...

I was just thinking about some of the games we play. Mainly this post is meant to just get you people thinking. Not to change anything, but to just think in a recreational way =D. First off, in Battlefield: Bad Company 2 the campaign is American soldiers killing Russians. In MW2 we have Americans killing Russians. Both games we have Amerikanzeeees killing Russkiees. Now I know I am not the first to have this thought, but do Russians over in the Motherland play any of these games? If so, how does it makes them feel to be the bad guy? Does Russia even allow these games to be released? If so, do Russian developers change the game to make you Russian soldiers killing Americans? How does this work? 'Cause the panda is not sad, he is confused. Over in the states we don't see games like COD: Al Qaeda. People wont buy that game....well, MOST people. (I wouldn't buy it...but that is just 'cause it's COD and it would probably be made by Treyarch). All of this may seem silly because it's all just virtual war, but you guys get the idea. THINK ABOUT IT!!!!!

(P.S I bet this would be a good little podcast topic.)

  1. i had the same thought years back when Metal of Honer Rising Sun came out. im not really sure how they feel about it. i guess one way of looking at is, its a game and its more about the gameplay then the politics. GTA4 is one of the biggest selling games in history of games, in which you play as a middle eastern immigrant running and guning down "american" citizens? but ya good point.

  2. I suppose so...but you would think that a psycho government would have some sort of censorship policy for something like this...perhaps

  3. GTA4 was basically a less violent version of the great film An American Tail. You know the one about Fifle the mouse who loses his family while trying to make it in the big apple? Same story. Except less evil cats.

On point tho, I'm pretty sure games just don't get released in certain countries. Or slight things get "localized" out. I'm pretty sure that the Honor Rising game never hit japanese shores because most games dealing with that whole bombing issue get scrapped for the common decency. I think. Not sure tho.

Maybe we just found the reason why most countries hate us..

"We make games about the terrible things we do to you, lawl." Says top EA executive, in charge of spitting in the face of everyone that is different.

    Good points tho gentlemen.
