As we all already know (if you don't live under a rock)
1. Who is Nathan Drake? Names have already been thrown around like Nathan Fillian, and the guy from bones but that's not the surprise; we do this every time a movie is announced of something we already know. When a book is announced the Internet explodes with "ZOMG WHO IS GONNA PLAY EDWARD IN TWILIGHT!! Should it be..." the surprise here is that the man behind the voice and all the motion capture for Drake, of TV and Voice fame, is Nolan North. Normally with games the voices are done on different days in sound booths with the voice actors pretending to be in the scene in their head. This is not the case with uncharted. The motion capture (mocap) and voice acting is done at the same time on a green screen stage with both actors that are in the scene. This is probably what contributes to the cinematic feel of the game.
I feel that I might have lost some of you already. To expand upon what I've said watch this video, and then continue reading.

So in light of all this new found information you can see how it's absurd to just cast Tom Cruise and call it a day. Nolan did such a great job bringing the character to life giving Nathan his posture, his mannerisms, his personality and his charm. Simply put, the reason why Sony/Colombia are considering a movie for Uncharted is because of how well Nolan made the character. Without Nolan this will be just another video game tie in movie like Hitman or Max Payne... Why fix something that isn't broken? Nolan is an off screen and on screen actor; he can do it based on his resume and based on his performance in the game (literally).

So after all that I guess we're left with the bigger question...
2. Do we even need an Uncharted movie? With as much of a Hollywood movie as the game already feels, is it redundant to even bother doing it again without game play? In theory they could just add some action cut scenes to the existing scenes and release it as a DVD. Sure it would be cool to see it as live action. It would be nice if it started a cult following like Indy. But lets be honest here folks, we're talking about a video game movie... This is like hoping that the Wall-e video game is gonna be great... Somethings are meant to be this and not that...
If it were up to me I would recast all the voice talent, follow the games plot and script to a T and market the shit out of it. But at the end of the day it's up to some smuck at Colombia that's never played the game to make those decisions. I'll leave it up to you to discuss below...
i think nolan would be a great pic. unfortunately, hollywood execs are simply playing numbers games when it comes to making a movie, so they'd cast whoever would look good on a poster and get butts in seats.
