Why in the name of Zeus did I not buy WKC the very day it came out!?!? IT IS AMAZING! I was very hesitant because of the average to low scores it has received from other sources, but they obviously had no idea what they were talking about. So...let's talk about it =D
You pretty much give birth to your character because of the depth of design you control over them. For example, my character is based on Rinoa from FF8. You have tons of fun stuff to play around with as far as character creation, but I would have liked to see more hair styles. This actually took me about two hours of fiddling to make my person, but that is because I wanted to be specific. You could whip something up in two seconds if you wanted to. The fun is already close to infinite there. The main campaign involves you taking your dude and the main protagonists on a twisty world of open adventure.
THE STORY
So the storyline is not as deep as some other RPGs, but it offers something original and different. I thought one of the coolest aspects of the game was during the little movies (aside from intense "CGI" moments); all of the characters' looks change with the armor you give them. Your character also makes appearances, although he never speaks. It is great how there is a seamless integration of solo gaming and the online community. On that note, let's talk about the real deal.
ONLINE
This game certainly offers a fun and addicting online experience unlike anything I have seen on the ps3. Trust me...ask anyone else on the blog and they will tell you I have been pillaging this game for weeks now. There is a wide variety of quests that require help from others that will keep you entertained for hours. Most are shortish with a one hour duration for completing the objective. They range from killing stuff, puzzles, to item collection and deliveries, etc.

So there are seven disciplines for the gamer to master: 1h sword, 2h sword, 2h axes, spears, staves, bows, elemental magic, and divine magic. You have the opportunity to learn them all through the reincarnation system, which lowers your level to allow you to keep building your stats. Reincarnation only reduces the character's overall level, not the stats. Also, when brought back down to level 35 on the first four occasions, 40 skill points are granted for free use.
GAMEPLAY
This game is what FFXI should have been. Like many RPGs, you have a small task bar that you put your abilities in at bottom of your screen. WKC uses a time bar to judge when you can attack. You also have the chance to string and set up your own combo move similar to something close to a FF limit break. If you like this type of action/pseudo-turn based combat, then you will love this game.
MISCELLANEOUS
The gamer also has a unique chance to build their own city. The Georama or "city builder" is very similar, if not a mirror image, to Dark Cloud. You set up shops, recruit residents, and build huts, decorations, gardens, and much more. Your city gives you discounts on material and components you need for crafting equipment and other buildings. You can post your city online in their Geonet system as well as visit many other Georamas. Besides grinding to level up your character, you also have to focus on working up your guild rank. This other rank gives you access to the best equipment the game can offer. A cool feature is a separate friends list. Instead of adding a ton of new friends from WKC, you have a "homepage" in the Geonet world that has a format similar to an email where you can add friends, read WKC news, and send messages about what quest to do now.
RATING
I highly recommend this game to all ps3 owners, because other than being a fantastic game, it is exclusive to just you guys! A definite BUY! Check it out, and if you do not like it or think I missed something important, comment or send us an email!

ReplyDeleteIf you haven't played the first, this video contains "spoilers"... being the sequel and all. Looks a bit more enticing than the first. Although from what I can gather, I'm guessing a couple of the action scenes are from the end of the game. Due out July 8, 2010 in Japan. WKC3 will probably be announced before we get it. Haha
I AM EXCITED. EPIC VIDEO IZ EPIC
