First Glance: Enslaved or When did I become such a jaded gamer?
So having magical PSN accounts from other regions sometimes has it's perks; last night I stumbled upon one of those perks in the form of a demo that wont be released here in the states for another week or so. That demo for those of you who aren't in the know, or decided to ignore the post's title and/or image is Enslaved: Odyssey to the West.
With that out of the way I can let you guys know if the gig and a half download is going to be worth your time. It is. The game plays like a ps2 action platformer set on a static backdrop that feels ripped from an unreleased final fantasy of the same generation. I can't really pinpoint if the game is pretty or just mind altering creative. The battle system could use more flair - think Force Unleashed plus Crash Bandicoot with a sprinkle of Heavenly Sword. Sadly, that means it is almost to the boredom stage in the relationship after only being in about 5 fights during the 15 minute demo. The trailer after completing the demo did talk about the normal action adventure cliches with skill tree's, bosses, and crazy awesome platforming which didn't really sway me into making this a must play.
What did get me on board to play was the creativity with character design and an almost alternate universe shoved into this escort mission-esque storyline (that is sure to piss off a whole heap of gamers). Overall I would say when the demo pops this Tuesday, be sure to check it out so you get a better understanding of what you'll be getting into. My mood towards this game has turned from super excited to meh, I'll still play it I guess...
If anything, you can keep the demo on your ps3 just to have as game to hover over while you get some very Clint Mansell inspired tune-age.
As always, if you have any questions, comments or angry responses, (looking at you Ninja Theory) then hit ME up. I will be more then happy to continue the correspondence.
