(R) Transformers: War for Cybertron (PS3,X360,PC)

Summary:
War for Cybertron (sanctioned as canon by Hasbro themselves) takes place before our transformer pals make contact with Earth. The story follows Dark Energon and Megatron's evil plans to harvest the mysterious and powerful element for his evil schemes.

Pros:

While I haven't had much experience with Transformers video games, I've reached the unfair conclusion that most of them (if there are many of them at all) are shovel-ware. Except this one. WFC offers many things for fans of third-person shooters and giant robot lovers alike. It features good weapons, blasting Decepticons (or Autobots depending on which campaign you're playing), and transforming action. WFC also supports 3-player co-op and online play.

The graphics are surprisingly detailed, and I could watch those smooth transforming animations all day. Flying is fun - the controls for which were handled masterfully, and there seems to be a variety in the plane and vehicle designs. The voice acting and dialogue as a whole is enjoyable and stays true to the cartoons - make of that what you will.

Cons:
Despite being a step above a movie-based game designed solely for making dosh, WFC still has issues. It feels a little too easy (somewhat remedied by difficulty levels) and simplistic, perhaps to cater to a younger audience, as one might expect. The Transformers in the single player and multiplayer (where a class-based system is used) don't have any significant differences between them in terms of play style.

My main gripe with WFC though is that the multiplayer, at least for me, is borderline unplayable. Admittedly, server issues were somewhat fixed, but the game is extremely laggy at times and it's hard (at least for me due to my location) to find local games.

Final Verdict:
Not just another grab for cash - fun gameplay, great campaign and nice graphics make WFC a must-play. If you're American, you may also want to check out the online play.

Score:
On that note, if you live outside the U.S, or you aren't a fan of 3PS games or giant robots, I recommend RENTing it.
